The above website allows you to look up your medications (brand or generic) to see if the company that makes them has a program that offers them at a free or reduced fee.

Each company has eligibility guidelines and an application process to follow. Guidelines, applications and instructions are found on the website. If you can't print the form from the website, an 800 number is listed so that you can call for a form to be mailed to you.

This program is intended for all ages. Any age restrictions will be listed if they apply.

The program is not intended for those who have prescription coverage, veterans benefits, medicaid or other public or private assistance for medications.

All persons living in the household will be counted and required to provide proof of income if appropriate. Proof of income is required for all applications and includes wages, social security (all forms), pensions, interest income, veterans benefits, etc.
Prescription Drug Program
The Prescription Drug Program (PDP) is a volunteer based program by which senior citizens are aided in obtaining costly prescription drugs for a free or reduced cost through the patient assistance programs administered by each pharmaceutical company. Most companies will send three (3) months worth of medication upon receipt of an application if the client meets their guidelines for eligibility. ECKAAA has a network of volunteers to assist in obtaining and completing applications and attaching the necessary documentation. Volunteers also assist with the reapplication process.

Each drug company has their own procedures and criteria for eligibility. Each company has their own forms that need completed and their own requirements for financial documentation. The three basic general requirements that are uniform to all pharmaceutical companies are:

  1. The drug company must have the specific drug as part of the program. Not all drugs are offered at the free or reduced price. ECKAAA volunteers can help determine if the requested medication is available.

  2. The patient's doctor must be willing to cooperate by signing the applications and attaching a prescription. Doctors also must be willing to receive the medication for the patient as most companies will only send the medication through the doctor's office.

  3. The senior citizen must meet that company's eligibility requirements and provide the necessary documentation to substantiate it.

Become a Prescription Drug Volunteer
Senior citizens rely on the ECKAAA volunteers to assist them with the applications, financial documentation and the reapplication process. Each county has a County Coordinator that helps funnel the referrals from the ECKAAA office and the community to the local volunteers. The volunteers work directly with the physician's offices to get applications signed and prescriptions attached to the applications.

ECKAAA trains all volunteers and keeps in contact directly and through the County Coordinator with local volunteers to offer assistance when needed. Expenses are reimbursed when possible. Ongoing training is provided so all volunteers have the most current and accurate information to use.

To become a volunteer contact the Program Development Specialist or the Special Projects Director at 785-242-7200 or 1-800-633-5621.
